After having 25, 30 and 40 year anniversaries, with fewer original
performers each year but bigger crowds, I'm not really surprised the 50th
fizzed.
About the only remaining '70s festival to still be going strong is
probably Glastonbury in Somerset, UK. This has run from 1970 to this
year, 2019, with a gap every few years to let the fields recover after
particularly wet events, totalling 36 events over 49 years, and with
attendance rising from 1,500 to 135,000. It eventually grew so big that
the Mike Eavis, the dairy farmer who has always run it, bought the
neighbouring farm to accommodate the expanded festival.
However, I see that the Zappanale is keeping pace, with 30 events from
1990.
