In the lyrics of the first stanza of Inca Roads, FZ referenced Erich von Daeniken's notion (published in his 1968 book _Chariots of the Gods?_) that the geoglyphs known as "Nazca Lines" made circa-2000 years ago in the desert southwest of Lima in Peru were a landing strip for aliens.

Today's _New York Times_ reported Japanese researchers identifying 143 previously unreported geoglyphs. The researchers had some assistance from IBM Japan and the Watson AI engine to identify candidate anthropomorphic and biomorphic Nazca Lines among the geometric lines. Those researchers also plan to produce a map of the Lines.

The Nazca are interesting, but not nearly as big as descriptions have
made out: The Monkey and The Humming Bird are both around 100m across,
i.e. not a lot bigger than the various White Horses laid out on hills
here in the UK, and could have been supervised from a scaffold. Granted,
a lot of the straight, parallel lines are much longer than that, but
still not beyond the capabilities of ground based workers - the long
avenue in Luxor is at least as long and on similarly flat ground, but
nobody thinks the Pharonic Egyptians had help from aliens in spaceships
and aircraft when they laid that out.

I'm not knocking the stuff that was done at Nazca, just pointinf out that
some descriptions of it are, err, exaggerated.

Want to see for yourself?

A visit to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazca_Lines

provides the geographic co-ordinates for the Lines, so link across to
your copy of Google Earth, zoom in and use its measuring tool. As you
zoom in you'll also see there are markers set on The Monkey and The
Humming Bird.
