I finally got some email from people who knew him and they said he
passed away sometime in the 1990s- from 1993-1998, so allmusic is
probably correct.

After playing with the Mothers for a short time, he did a steady hotel
gig in the 80s in Mexico.
He was the son of Maurice Harris, a well-known trumpet player who was
with the Tonight Show band with Doc Severinson for years.
From all accounts a fine jazz piano player who also did some work for
Ray Charles at some point (arranging?).

I just got another email from someone who says that Robert Maurice
Harris was born 9/27/43 and died 8/11/2001 in San Diego.
They also said that he married Judee Sill 4/27/66 and they got
divorced in January of 1972.
That should be easy to check out CU, so I guess the allmusic date was
for the film composer of "Lolita" as I thought.

Thank you very much! The exact dates really help, as there were three
Robert Harrises who lived 1943-2001.

California birth records show that he was born in Los Angeles County.
